The Brazilian team outlasted the world-class international competition to win the GET Trophy
The first champion of the biggest Global Esports Tour in history is reveling in their victory with their passionate Brazilian fans at the Maracanãzinho in Rio de Janeiro. The Counter-Strike 2 tournament was filled with intense competition and the electric energy that only esports can provide.
In a thrilling all-Brazilian Grand Final, paiN Gaming defeated Imperial Esports 2-1 to claim the coveted GET Trophy and the Grand Prize of US$100,000 after three days of competition between eight of the world’s best teams.
With an undefeated record heading into the final, Imperial Esports had the advantage of selecting the first map of the matchup. Their choice of Inferno proved wise, as they dominated on the offensive end to take nine rounds in the first half followed by four successful defenses to secure the 13-6 victory. The second map was more evenly contested, with paiN taking the narrow 7-5 halftime lead with solid offensive gameplay on Nuke. Their team effort continued in the second half, with six successful defenses giving them the 13-9 victory.
paiN kept their momentum in the third and final map of Ancient, jumping out to a 9-3 lead at halftime with precise offensive attacks. It was a back-and-forth affair in the second half with both teams fighting hard with the championship at stake. Imperial showed their prowess on offense by taking five rounds, but paiN managed to secure four successful defenses to give them the 13-8 victory and the GET Champion title.
The powerhouse paiN team reached the Grand Final with a convincing 2-0 victory over MIBR in the Consolidation Final. Despite being the higher seed and choosing Anubis as the first map, MIBR was unable to stop paiN from taking every single round on offense in the first half. MIBR put up a fight in the second half, winning the first six rounds on offense before paiN closed the door with one successful defense for the 13-6 victory.
With MIBR fighting for their tournament lives on paiN’s map choice of Vertigo, the teams went toe-to-toe by each taking eight rounds on offense and four on defense in the first and second half, leading to an overtime thriller. However, paiN regained their form to take four out of five rounds in overtime to claim the match with a score of 16-13 and move on to the Grand Final.
To reach the Consolidation Final, MIBR defeated OG in a tense Best-of-3 where each map resulted in a 13-10 victory. OG struck first by shining on the Vertigo map on offense, taking 10 rounds in the first half before closing out the narrow victory on defense with three successful rounds.
However, MIBR would not be denied a shot at a rematch against paiN after falling to their Brazilian rivals in the Upper Bracket Semifinals 13-9. They brought home consecutive 13-10 wins over OG on Anubis and Inferno with a mix of strong offensive and defensive play.
